Meet “Kendra” (name changed for privacy) — a 29-year-old mom preparing to welcome her first baby. Her doctor may induce labor as early as next week, and she’s doing everything she can to be ready.

When Kendra was six months pregnant, she unexpectedly lost her job. What started as “we’ll catch up next month” quickly became an overwhelming pile-up of rent, bills, and late notices. Her mom and sister have been steady emotional support, but they simply don’t have the resources to help her climb out of the financial hole she fell into. The baby’s father is not involved, leaving Kendra to carry the weight of pregnancy, stress, and uncertainty alone.

Kendra was referred to LoveLine through a local Pregnancy Resource Center. They were concerned about whether she could maintain housing long-term and felt that financial support would only delay the inevitable. But when LoveLine heard Kendra’s story, we saw something different. We saw a young mother showing up, staying engaged, and refusing to give up on a safe, stable home for her baby.

Because of generous support, LoveLine was able to step in with emergency financial assistance that stopped the eviction process. Even more encouraging, Kendra’s landlord agreed to work with her on the remaining balance, giving her a real chance to stabilize.

Kendra’s case manager, Kim, has walked closely with her every step of the way, listening, encouraging, advocating, and praying with her. LoveLine has also connected her with counseling services, financial coaching, and employment support. A volunteer coach is helping Kendra update her resume and prepare for job opportunities as she prepares to return to work after the baby arrives.

Kendra shared:

“I felt so much better after talking with Kim. She prayed with me and I feel so much better. I really, really appreciate y’all. I have a great support system, but it’s so good to get some of the stuff out without being judged. I just want to make my mom and sister proud. I was always the one to have it together.”

While we were able to stop her eviction, Kendra still has a remaining balance. We know that this will be a big ask for the support she needs.

But we believe Kendra is worth it, and that a safe home for a newborn baby is worth fighting for when everyone else has told her no.

If you’re able, would you consider giving today to help cover Kendra’s remaining housing balance and keep her stable as she prepares to welcome her baby? Every gift—no matter the amount—helps LoveLine step in quickly when a mom is on the edge of losing everything.
